SALT LAKE CITY — The Utah Department of Health and Human Services reported 1,881 new COVID-19 cases and 10 additional deaths over the past week.

The daily average for new cases was just under 269. Most of the newly confirmed deaths did not occur over the past seven days, according to the data.

Fewer wastewater testing locations — which state health officials use to gauge current COVID-19 transmission rates due to low testing numbers — showed increased or elevated virus levels compared to the previous three weeks. Now 47.10% of wastewater testing locations are showing virus increases.

The rate of emergency room visitors who tested positive for COVID-19 also fell compared to the past several weeks; it stands at 1.67% this week.

On Thursday, 106 people were hospitalized with COVID-19 across the state, according to the health department, with 13 of those patients in intensive care units.

To date, at least 1,038,416 people have tested positive for the coronavirus and 5,021 people in Utah have died due to the disease.
