Election Day

It's been 21 months ... almost two years that this Presidential race has been going on. In elections, incumbents win if voters feel that a change isn't necessary or good. New candidates win when voters are sick of what's happening and want a change. You could look at the election in Utah that way. Our major races: For Governor, Attorney General, Treasurer, 1st and 2nd District Congress, the current people, or in the case of the treasurer, the heir apparent, are expected to win by huge margins. For President, though, Obama has succeeded in tagging McCain with the 'Bush brush'. But Obama's appeal goes beyond that: He's at least 'talking differently'. He's talking about building consensus, about not harping on the differences that bog us down. He's setting goals, being realistic about the realities ahead and is speaking to the younger generation. It may be true that Obama didn't get scrutinized the way most candidates, including Sarah Palin did. So an Obama vote could be seen as a leap of faith, because we really don't know that much about what he actually do.
