TULSA, Okla. (AP) — President Donald Trump’s supporters faced off with protesters shouting “Black Lives Matter” in Tulsa as the president held his first campaign rally in months amid public health concerns about the coronavirus and fears that the event could lead to violence in the wake of killings of Black people by police. Activists flooded the city’s downtown streets and briefly blocked traffic at an intersection, but police reported just one arrest as of Saturday afternoon. Later in the evening, a group of armed men began following the protesters. When the protesters blocked an intersection, a man wearing a Trump shirt got out of a truck and spattered them with pepper spray. Police later deployed an irritant gas to try and make the group disperse.

UNDATED (AP) — President Donald Trump is suggesting to supporters that he has told members of his administration to slow the rate of coronavirus testing in the United States. Speaking at a campaign rally Saturday night in Oklahoma, Trump said the United States has tested 25 million people, and far more than any other country. He also told the crowd that more testing leads to finding more cases of people who test positive. Trump said that “so I said to my people slow the testing down, please.” Trump opted to hold his rally despite concerns from local health officials that it could lead to a spread of the virus in Tulsa. Most of those in attendance declined to wear face masks.

WASHINGTON (AP) — President Donald Trump was outraised by Joe Biden in May, taking in $74 million for his reelection. But Trump maintains a sizable advantage in cash on hand over the presumptive Democratic nominee. The pro-Trump effort, which includes fundraising by the Republican National Committee, reported its total days after Biden and Democrats said they had amassed nearly $81 million last month for his White House bid. Trump reported having $265 million in the bank at the end of May. Biden and Democrats have yet to disclose their comparable numbers for that period. The total was $103 million in the bank at the end of April.

UNDATED (AP) — President Donald Trump is seeking to tie the destruction of monuments and statues around the country to Democratic leaders, including his likely rival in the presidential election, Joe Biden. Speaking to supporters in Tulsa, Trump says “the choice in 2020 is very simple. Do you want to bow before the left-wing mob or do you want to stand up tall and proud as Americans?” Statues have been destroyed in numerous cities amid continuing anti-racism demonstrations following the May 25 police killing in Minneapolis of George Floyd, the African-American man who died in police custody.

BEIJING (AP) — China plans to establish a special bureau in Hong Kong to investigate and prosecute crimes considered threatening to national security, according to details of a controversial new national security law Beijing is imposing on the semi-autonomous territory. The state-run news agency says that in addition, bodies in all Hong Kong government departments, from finance to immigration, will be directly answerable to the central government in Beijing. The announcement increases concerns that China’s communist government will continue to tighten its grip on Hong Kong. The bill was raised for discussion at the meeting of the Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress in Beijing but there was no further word on its fate.
