SALT LAKE CITY — Utah’s number of COVID-19 cases has increased by 153 from Friday with three new reported deaths, according to the Utah Department of Health.
Health department spokeswoman Charla Haley said in an email that all three of the Utahns who died had underlying health conditions. Two were from Utah County, a woman over age 85 and a man between 65 and 84. The third was a Salt Lake County woman over age 85.
Saturday's totals give Utah 4,981 confirmed cases, with 418 total hospitalizations and 49 total deaths from the disease. Previously, there were 4,828 cases in the state.
The new numbers indicate a 3.2% increase in positive cases since Friday. Of the 117,804 people tested in Utah so far, 4.2% have tested positive for COVID-19.
As of Saturday, 2,185 people were considered recovered from COVID-19 in Utah. Anyone who was diagnosed with COVID-19 three or more weeks ago and has not died is considered recovered from the disease.
The total number of cases reported by the health department includes all cases of COVID-19 since Utah’s outbreak began including those who are infected now, those who have recovered from the disease, and those who have died.
At 12:01 a.m. Friday, Utah officially moved from high risk to a moderate risk phase under the Utah Leads Together 2.0 plan.
Many restaurants and businesses across the state have reopened their doors but under strict restrictions. Customers are still being asked to practice social distancing as businesses take extra sanitary precautions.
