MYTON, Duchesne County — A man who was shot on Thursday has died of his injuries, Duchesne County sheriff’s officials confirmed on Friday.

Kyler John Smith, 21, of Myton, died early Friday morning at a hospital along the Wasatch Front, according to a news release from the Duchesne County Sheriff’s Office.

Michael Raymond Reyburn, 59, of Myton, was arrested and booked into the Duchesne County Jail in connection to the shooting, the release says. Reyburn was being held without bail.

Reyburn was arrested for investigation of manslaughter, carrying a concealed short-barreled shotgun, transaction of a dangerous weapon as a restricted person, and multiple drug-related offenses, officials said.

Reyburn told detectives Smith, who lives one trailer home away, knocked on the front door of his trailer home about 2 p.m. on Thursday while Reyburn was inside holding a shotgun. During the process of answering the door, Reyburn told detectives his shotgun fired through the door and shot Smith in the head.

The release says responding deputies found Reyburn on the floor inside of the trailer with a sawed-off, double-barrel .410 shotgun nearby. The deputies searched the trailer after getting a warrant and found methamphetamine, marijuana, digital scales and other drug-related items inside.

Also on Thursday, Smith was threatened by a different man while sitting outside his trailer several hours before he was shot, according to authorities.

Nautika Malakhi Noon, 19, allegedly went to Smith’s trailer home on Thursday and pointed a pellet gun at him. According to authorities, the pellet gun Noon used resembles a functioning high-caliber pistol.

Noon was charged in 8th District Court with aggravated assault, a third-degree felony, and is being held without bail, according to court records.

Both incidents remained under investigation Friday.
