TRANSPARENCY LAW REVEALS DETAILS OF ENRIQUE IGLESIAS CONTRACT
MCALLEN, Texas (AP) - A change in Texas law means Texans now can know how much of their taxpayer dollars went to Enrique Iglesias (en-REE'-kay ee-GLAY'-see-uhs) for a 2015 holiday concert in McAllen. City officials had been concealing the terms of the contract, but a broad transparency measure went into effect this week that changed that. The contract reveals that McAllen guaranteed Iglesias $485,000 for a one-hour performance, with half paid in advance. The contract indicates McAllen also paid for a chartered flight from Guadalajara, Mexico, and purchased 24 hotel rooms for two nights for Iglesias. It also provided him with a variety of sushi and sashimi, as well as a juicer for his crew and a “huge, plentiful selection of fruits and vegetables.”
JAMES BLUNT’S OTHER JOB: RUNNING A PUB
LONDON (AP) - When James Blunt is not on tour, he’s in his local pub -- because he owns it. Blunt owns The Fox and Pheasant in London. He says he’s got a capable team that handles things because he’s gone a lot, but when he’s in town, he’s there at least twice a week. He grew up in the neighborhood and always said he’d buy it if he could. When it came up for sale, he won a bidding war for it against someone who wanted to turn it into apartments. Blunt says pubs bring strangers together, much like music does. What about fans who stop by, just to see if he’s there? Blunt says that happens and “it's a pleasure to see them always."
