SOUTH SALT LAKE — One man died Tuesday evening in an auto-pedestrian crash, police confirmed.

The incident occurred at 3300 S. 900 West, officials said. Police believe the man, who was likely in his 40s or 50s, was a transient on his way to the homeless shelter in the area.

Police said the man was trying to cross the road in the middle of the block when he was hit by an eastbound car.

Speed doesn't appear to be a factor in the crash and police said there is low visibility on that road. Police cautioned drivers to drive carefully in the area due to the new homeless shelter.
