PROVO — BYU has been eagerly looking forward to returning to Hawaii for the Maui Invitational since before this time last year, maybe even since their last visit in 2014.

Southern Utah will be joining them.

Well, sort of.

The Thunderbirds were among four other schools added to the tournament’s Maui on the Mainland regional round, a setup that will include its first trip to play the Cougars since 2007 and a road game at Pac-12 historical power UCLA.

SUU will play at BYU on Nov. 13 in the programs' 12th head-to-head meeting all-time. The Thunderbirds are 0-11 in the previous matchups.

A week later, Southern Utah will play at UCLA on Nov. 18.

"We are extremely excited to be a part of the prestigious Maui Mainland Classic," SUU coach Todd Simon told KSL.com. "Securing games against UCLA and BYU, and competing at East Tennessee State gives our program excellent opportunities to show our growth and to compete on a big stage.

"Competing at BYU for the first time since 2007 will be a fun challenge and a chance for our alumni in that region to see us in action."

In addition to the two games against top competition, the Thunderbirds will play a pair of regional games at East Tennessee State, beginning with Charleston Southern on Nov. 23, and either Delaware State or East Tennessee the next day.
