SALT LAKE CITY — We've made it through the first week of madness, and now things get a little more interesting as the top 16 schools vie for that top position to be labeled the best high school in the state.
All matchups Friday were fairly close, with no high school garnering more than 60 percent of the vote. Skyline, a No. 3 seed, had the best margin of victory with 58 percent of the vote against No. 6 West.
Only one No. 1 seed, American Fork, survived the round of 32 — sorry Davis, Weber and Hillcrest. And on the flip side, Cottonwood, a No. 15 seed, remains the highest seed still in the challenge and looks to upset nearby school Skyline.
It's now time to narrow the pool down to the eight best schools from the three largest classifications in the state — 6A, 5A and 4A. How you determine that is entirely up to you.
Maybe a school has the best arts program, or the name of the school just sounds good. Maybe the academics are top notch, or you don't want to see your rival school win so you pick the school against it. Whatever your method, just have fun and don't take this too seriously.
Voting for the Sweet 16 round will go until midnight, so get your votes in before then. And tell your friends to vote, too.
