SALT LAKE CITY — Dante Exum can’t catch a break.

After making a return from injury briefly (for three minutes) in the Jazz’s 120-100 win over Minnesota late Thursday night, the 6-foot-6 point guard from Australia has suffered another serious injury.

Exum has been diagnosed with a partially torn patellar tendon in his right knee, the Jazz announced after a medical exam Friday afternoon by the team’s medical staff. The point guard also underwent magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) to confirm the diagnosis.

Exum will be out indefinitely as he continues to seek opinions on how to best treat the injury, the team added.

His teammates don’t know how long he’ll be out, either — but they are lending full support to the Aussie standout, Donovan Mitchell said after Thursday's win over Minnesota.

“It’s really tough. He’s worked his butt off this season. For that to happen, it’s tough,” Mitchell told KSL.com. “But we’re here for him. Everyone here is wishing him well and wants him back. I don’t know the extent of his injury, but I know that we are here for him.”

A first-round draft pick at No. 5 overall by the Jazz in 2014, Exum has spent three years in the league — but played sparingly due to injuries, even while engineering a mild turnaround earlier this season. He’s averaged just 5.9 points and 2.3 assists across 42 games (one start) in three years, including 6.9 points and 2.6 assists in the 15.8 minutes per contest he’s played in 2018-19.

The Jazz will host the Brooklyn Nets at 7 p.m. Saturday night at Vivint Smart Home Arena.
