SEOUL, South Korea (AP) — South Korea and the U.S. are eliminating their massive springtime military drills and replacing them with smaller exercises as part of efforts to support diplomacy aimed at resolving the North Korean nuclear crisis. The decision announced by both countries Sunday is an olive branch to North Korea. But it will likely raise worries about how the allies will maintain their readiness if tensions rise again after the failed summit between President Donald Trump and North Korean leader Kim Jong Un.

SACRAMENTO, Calif. (AP) — The fiancee of a man killed by police says a prosecutor's decision not to file charges continues a "shameful legacy" of officers killing black men without consequences. Salena Manni tearfully criticized a California prosecutor Saturday for bringing up the domestic violence complaint she filed against Stephon Clark two days before he was killed nearly a year ago. The district attorney says that may have been a factor when the unarmed vandalism suspect was fatally shot.

OXON HILL, Md. (AP) — President Donald Trump stoked a conservative conference for more than two hours Saturday, touching on familiar issues and grievances as he predicted a more impressive victory at the polls in 2020. Trump denounced socialism, calling it "power for the ruling class," and ridiculed the so-called Green New Deal, a Democratic plan for combatting climate change. He also criticized the man he nominated to chair the Federal Reserve, all but accusing Jerome Powell of being a drag on the economy.

NEW YORK (AP) — Democratic presidential candidate Bernie Sanders says his second campaign for the White House is marked by its opposition to the policies of President Donald Trump. Sanders kicked off his campaign Saturday near the apartment where he grew up in Brooklyn, New York. The Vermont senator told supporters that Trump seeks to divide Americans and is the "most dangerous president" in modern U.S. history.

BEIJING (AP) — China's ceremonial legislature is due to endorse a law Beijing hopes might help to defuse a bruising tariff war with Washington by discouraging officials from pressuring foreign companies to hand over technology. The fight with China's biggest trading partner is overshadowing the National People's Congress. Its annual gathering of 3,000-plus delegates gives President Xi Jinping's government a platform to advertise changes aimed at ending the fight over Beijing's technology ambitions.
