SANDY — Real Salt Lake has a new look.
The new all-white road uniform combo includes red stripes with a red collar and blue piping, red piping around the edges and all-red RSL crest over the left breast. The new kit is similar to previous road combinations, but with an updated red palette and "digital glitch" red stripes across the front and back.
An "As One" badge with a club emblem of crossed swords adorns the back collar, as well.
"I think, quite honestly, that this is the best kit we’ve ever seen at Real Salt Lake," RSL broadcast analyst Brian Dunseth told KSL TV. "It’s for the fans … you can match it up.
"The thing about these jerseys is that it’s about wearing them around town."
The jersey still features a faint silver star above the crest, representing RSL's 2009 MLS Cup title, as well as a Beehive patch with the numbers 05 to signify the club's inaugural season.
RSL midfielder Albert Rusnak called it “the best white jersey we’ve had since I’ve been here, and I really like the splash of red color on the white," in an email to supporters.
RSL will first wear the new white kits at the club’s home opener March 9 against the Vancouver Whitecaps.
RSL has undergone several uniform combinations since its founding days in 2005. From the red top-blue shorts combo in the club’s expansion season to a brief spell with "victory gold" alternate third kits, the club has always experimented with white home combinations and colored (mostly red or blue) away kits.
The shirts are immediately available at RSL team store locations, both at Rio Tinto Stadium and downtown Salt Lake City, 55 E. 300 South, beginning at 9 a.m. MST, Friday. The first several fans who purchase a jersey will also receive a free, limited edition RSL scarf.
Real Salt Lake opens the 2019 Major League Soccer season March 2 at Houston. All games not televised nationally will be streamed live in Utah on KSL.com as part of a multi-year contract with the club.
