WASHINGTON (AP) — The shakeup at the White House is continuing. President Donald Trump said Saturday that John Kelly, the retired Marine Corps general who has had the job for the last year and a half, is leaving by the end of the month. Kelly's departure has been expected for months amid reports that his role at the White House has diminished over time. A White House official says that the top prospect to replace Kelly is Vice President Mike Pence's chief of staff, Nick Ayers.

WASHINGTON (AP) — The FBI investigation of potential ties between President Donald Trump's campaign and Russia at first focused on four Americans. That frome the FBI chief fired by Trump, James Comey. A transcript of Comey's testimony Friday to a House committee indicates he didn't reveal who those four are, though Comey told the lawmakers Trump wasn't among them. Among other things, Comey rejected Trump's claim that he and special counsel Robert Mueller are friends in any social sense.

PARIS (AP) — French riot police struggled to contain thousands of yellow-vested protesters venting their anger against the government as vandals tore through the area around the famed Champs-Elysees, smashing windows and burning vehicles in one of the French capital's most expensive neighborhoods. Authorities said 135 people were hurt and over 970 were arrested in the protests, which saw the rumble of armored police trucks and the hiss of tear gas fill central Paris.

NEW YORK (AP) — Oklahoma quarterback Kyler Murray has won the Heisman Trophy, beating out Alabama's Tua Tagovailoa and setting up College Football Playoff matchup of Heisman winner and runner-up. The fourth-ranked Sooners play the top-ranked Crimson Tide in the Orange Bowl semifinal Dec. 29 in the seventh bowl matchup of Heisman winner and runner-up, and first since second-place finisher Vince Young and Texas beat Reggie Bush and Southern California in the 2006 Rose Bowl.

BEIJING (AP) — A former foreign policy adviser to Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau says Chinese pressure on the Canadian government to release a top executive of Huawei won't work. In a tweet, Roland Paris says, "Perhaps because the Chinese state controls its judicial system, Beijing sometimes has difficulty understanding or believing that courts can be independent in a rule-of-law country." Paris was responding to China's summoning of Canadian Ambassador John McCallum in Beijing over the arrest.
