SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — Democrat Ben McAdams is declaring victory in a U.S. House race after a vote dump showed he took the lead over incumbent Republican Mia Love. The race is close to the recount zone. McAdams said Monday night at a news conference that county clerks told his campaign that nearly all the votes have been counted, leaving no way for the lead to flip back to Love. He says Love has not conceded.

SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — Kidnapping survivor Elizabeth Smart has given birth to her third child. Smart announced the birth on her Instagram account Monday with a picture of her holding new daughter Olivia as husband Matthew Gilmour looks on. In her post, Smart says "So happy to welcome Olivia to our family!" In 2002, Smart was kidnapped at age 14 from her Salt Lake City bedroom and held for nine months. One of her kidnappers was unexpectedly released in September.

MURRAY, Utah (AP) — Fire officials in Murray say a grandmother and her 7-year-old granddaughter have died in a house fire. KSL-TV in Salt Lake City reports the blaze broke out Monday morning around 8 a.m. Upon arriving at the scene, firefighters had difficulty reaching the second floor but eventually found the two victims dead inside.

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — A Minnesota man whose body was found over the weekend in a Utah reservoir apparently drowned along with his friend from Salt Lake City. The body of 24-year-old Benjamin Magalis of Goodhue, Minnesota, was found in the Strawberry Reservoir on Saturday. The body of a friend Magalis was with, 26-year-old Chenoa Plank, was found Sunday. Authorities say it appears the two drowned after their canoe capsized on Nov. 12.
