HOUSTON (AP) — The Houston Astros send Gerrit Cole to the mound for Game 2 of their AL Division Series against Cleveland. Cole will be making his fourth playoff start and first since 2015 with the Pirates. Carlos Carrasco will make his second career postseason starts for the Indians. Houston won yesterday's opener of the best-of-five series, 7-2.

BOSTON (AP) — David Price pitches against Masahiro Tanaka and the Yankees tonight in Game 2 of their AL Division Series. Boston won Game 1 last night at Fenway Park, 5-4. Price is looking for his first playoff win as a starter, though he has two postseason wins in relief. Tanaka pitched seven shutout innings in Game 5 of the ALCS against Houston last year.

UNDATED (AP) — The first Saturday of October features three college football games matching ranked teams, with an unbeaten team in each game. No. 19 Texas and No. 7 Oklahoma face off in the Big 12. No. 5 LSU is at No. 22 Florida and No. 6 Notre Dame goes to No. 24 Virginia Tech. Oklahoma, LSU and Notre Dame are all 5-0.

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — The NCAA Division I Council has introduced legislation that would allow some athletes to transfer and be immediately eligible to play for a new school if there is a coaching change before the first day of fall classes. The NCAA is looking at three other proposed changes. The others would require schools to commit two years of financial aid for all graduate transfers, allow walk-on transfers to play immediately and bar athletes from competing for different schools in the same academic year.

SUZUKA, Japan (AP) — Formula One points leader Lewis Hamilton has claimed the pole position for tomorrow's Japanese Grand Prix, the 80th pole of his career. With five races to go, Hamilton leads Sebastian Vettel by 50 points in the standings. Hamilton is seeking his fifth Formula One title.
