ATLANTA (AP) — Investigators say a Georgia state trooper fatally shot a man during an attempted traffic stop in Atlanta.

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation says Atlanta police saw a stolen vehicle around 2:20 p.m. Friday and asked the Georgia State Patrol to help stop it.

A state trooper used his blue lights and siren to try to pull the vehicle over in southwest Atlanta, but the driver didn't stop. The trooper tried a vehicle stopping technique. The GBI says the driver again failed to stop and hit a police car while trying to flee.

The GBI says the trooper shot the driver, identified as 36-year-old David Darden of Atlanta, during the attempted stop.

The GBI is investigating and will then turn the case over to the Fulton County district attorney for review.
