SANDY — JC Vazquez and Kelton Zollinger each scored a goal in the first half, and first-year Ridgeline held on for a 2-1 win over Snow Canyon in a Class 3A boys soccer state semifinal Friday at Alta High School.

Kadin Dorius scored a goal for Snow Canyon, but the Warriors (14-3-2) couldn’t break through after halftime.

The Riverhawks (14-2) will take on 3A power Juan Diego at 1:45 p.m. MDT Saturday at Rio Tinto Stadium in the state championship.

At Alta, Ruben Castillo scored twice as the Soaring Eagle built up a 3-0 lead in the second half before holding on for the win.

Derek Stuercke also scored for Juan Diego (15-3).

Jonathan Ayala had a second-half goal for the Grizzlies (9-7-1).
