FILER, Idaho (AP) — A convicted felon is accused of shooting at a Twin Falls sheriff's sergeant during a high-speed chase.
Skylar Wade Meade, 24, is charged with felony counts of aggravated assault on an officer, eluding, possession of a controlled substance, unlawful discharge of a firearm and unlawful possession of a firearm for the Friday incident, The Times-News reported (http://bit.ly/2eINhR4).
"It scares me to death when these guys start shooting at us," Twin Falls County Sheriff Tom Carter said. "Every time my phone rings at night, it scares me to death."
Meade fled after Twin Falls County Sheriff's Sgt. Rick Beem attempted to make a traffic stop on Friday, according to court documents. Meade then sped away toward Filer and prosecutors say he fired three shots at the sergeant.
Beem then backed off the chase but Meade lost control of his vehicle and crashed shortly after. According to a police report, Meade told Beem he didn't stop initially because he "thought he as being robbed."
Meade is in custody in lieu of $250,000 bond at the Twin Falls County Jail. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Nov. 18.
