SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — A West Valley City man is facing charges of attempted murder following a shooting on a highway that left one man seriously injured.

Eighteen-year-old Jimmy Alexis Lopez was arrested last week in connection with the Tuesday shooting on state Route 21.

The 18-year-old victim had been driving an SUV when someone inside a sedan pulled up next to him and fired several shots. He was taken to a hospital in serious condition and is expected to recover. A 15-year-old passenger in the victim's vehicle was not injured.

Authorities say they believe the shooting was gang-related.

The incident remains under investigation.
