SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. (AP) — Authorities have lifted evacuation orders, five days after an explosive wildfire swept through Southern California about 60 miles east of Los Angeles. More than 100 homes and more than 200 outbuildings were destroyed across the rural, mountainous terrain in San Bernardino County. The blaze that's burned nearly 58 square miles is about 85 percent contained.

WASHINGTON (AP) — President Barack Obama is back from a 16-day vacation in Martha's Vineyard, Massachusetts. He's ready for a busy fall season and more battles with Congress over Zika (ZEE'-kuh) funding, the federal budget and $400 million the administration paid Iran this year for the never-completed sale of military equipment. Obama is also expected to campaign throughout October to help elect Democrat Hillary Clinton as president.

RIO DE JANEIRO (AP) — The Olympic flame has been extinguished in Rio, and another Summer Games has come to an end. Sunday's closing ceremony celebrated 16 days of competition in which the U.S. won 46 gold medals and 121 medals overall. Olympians poured in under light rain, waving their flags while many shook their bodies to samba-infused pop that made the stadium feel like a Carnival parade.

UNDATED (AP) — More than 1,000 residents of a public housing complex in northwest Indiana have been in a state of panic and uncertainty since authorities informed them last month that their homes must be destroyed because of serious lead contamination. Parents at the West Calumet Housing Complex are told not to let children play in the dirt, and to wash toys because the soil is soaked with hazardous levels of lead and arsenic.

PARMA HEIGHTS, Ohio (AP) — Police in Ohio are considering bringing charges against a 74-year-old woman who hit the gas instead of her brakes and crashed into a crowd at an outdoor community concert. She and eight other people were injured. The accident happened Sunday night in Parma Heights, about 10 miles south of Cleveland.
