LONDON (AP) — Police in London say the woman who was stabbed to death during a knife attack last night was an American. Authorities describe the suspect as a Norwegian teenager of Somali origin, but say they've found no signs of radicalization. Five people wounded in the attack are said to be British, American, Israeli and Australian. None had life-threatening injuries. The attack came just days after authorities warned the British public to be vigilant in light of attacks inspired by the Islamic State group elsewhere in Europe.

WASHINGTON (AP) — President Barack Obama is assessing what's working — and what isn't — in the fight against the Islamic State group at a time the U.S. military is ramping up its engagement in Libya. The president meets today with military and national security advisers at the Pentagon. Afterward, he plans to hold a news conference.

LONDON (AP) — The Bank of England has unveiled a series of stimulus measures as it tries to jumpstart an economy shocked by Britain's vote to leave the European Union. The central bank cut its key rate to 0.25 percent from a previous record low of 0.5 percent. It's also expanding its bond-buying stimulus program to pump $79 billion in new money into the economy.

WASHINGTON (AP) — More Americans applied for unemployment benefits last week, but the number of remained close to historic lows in a positive sign for the job market. The Labor Department says applications for jobless aid rose 3,000 to a seasonally adjusted 269,000. The four-week average, a less volatile measure, increased 3,750 to 260,250.

RIO DE JANEIRO (AP) — French President Francois Hollande is wasting no time pushing his country as a potential 2024 Olympics host, making an on-site bid in Rio de Janeiro. Hollande flew to Rio today for a series of meetings over two days. Paris lost the 2012 Games to London in a surprise for the French, who felt certain Paris would be selected.
