MECHANICSBURG, Pan. (AP) — Donald Trump says Hillary Clinton is "the devil." Trump, speaking in Pennsylvania, derided Bernie Sanders for dropping out of the Democratic primary race and deciding to support Clinton. Trump said — quote — "He made a deal with the devil. She's the devil." It's the first time Trump has specifically equated Clinton with Lucifer.

WASHINGTON (AP) — Republican vice-presidential nominee Mike Pence has defended a military mom's right to criticize Donald Trump's comments about the Muslim parents of a slain U.S. Army captain. But Pence has also lashed out at the media for not giving similar coverage to Patricia Smith, whose son, a U.S. information officer, was killed in Benghazi.

BIG SUR, Calif. (AP) — A wildfire in Central California has destroyed three homes and grown to more than 3 square miles. The destroyed homes were confirmed Monday, though they had burned over the weekend. The blaze that broke out Saturday in the Fresno County town of Prather has grown to 3.1 square miles and is 20 percent contained.

LOCKHART, Texas (AP) — The pilot of a hot air balloon that crashed in Texas, killing 16 people, was able to keep flying despite having at least four drunken driving convictions. Whether the pilot's drinking habits had anything to do with the crash is unclear. A former girlfriend described Alfred "Skip" Nichols as sober for at least four years.

HOLMDEL, N.J. (AP) — It's an article of faith among dentists: Flossing daily prevents gum disease and cavities. But the federal government has quietly dropped its recommendation that people floss, saying its effectiveness has never been officially researched. What's more, a review by The Associated Press of 25 studies finds little proof that flossing works.
