BIG SUR, Calif. (AP) — Fire crews have their hands full as they continue to fight a massive wildfire near California's Big Sur. The blaze now covers 59 square miles. It's already destroyed 57 homes and 11 outbuildings and is threatens 2,000 more structures. More than 5,000 firefighters are battling the fire which is only 15 percent contained. Meanwhile, a fast-moving fire In Fresno County has forced people to evacuate at least 300 homes.
OGALLALA, Neb. (AP) — The Nebraska State Patrol says five people have died in a fiery crash that forced the closure of Interstate 80 in the western part of the state for several hours. Several vehicles were involved. The crash happened around 12:30 this afternoon near Brule in Keith County. The Patrol says the pileup began when a semitrailer truck struck the back of a van in the westbound lanes of the Interstate.
SEATTLE (AP) — A second vigil is planned for this evening in a small waterfront community north of Seattle where three people were shot to death at a house party. Hundreds of young people lit candles at Kamiak High School in Mukilteo last night. The fleeing 19-year-old suspect was arrested on an interstate more than 100 miles away. The University of Washington at Bothell says the suspect, Allen Ivanov, was a student. It says another student, Anna Bui, was killed.
LAS VEGAS (AP) — Las Vegas police say the uncle and longtime trainer of boxer Floyd Mayweather Jr. has been found safe after being missing overnight. Authorities say 55-year-old Roger Mayweather was located this morning and has been reunited with his family. Roger Mayweather was last seen Saturday afternoon less than a mile away from Mayweather Boxing Club. Authorities were especially concerned for him because he has medical issues.
WASHINGTON (AP) — The Commission on Presidential Debates is rejecting Donald Trump's claim that Democrats rigged the debate schedule so that two of the three debates would occur during football games. The nonpartisan, independent presidential debate commission says it never consulted with either political party in setting the dates and started working on conflicts more than 18 months ago. It says it was "impossible" to avoid all sporting events.
