Officer shoots officer...Big Sur fire hurting tourism...Zika on the mainland

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — Officials say an off-duty Indianapolis police officer has been caught in Ohio after allegedly shooting a detective investigating a reported domestic violence incident involving the suspect and his estranged wife. The detective, who was hit in the elbow, returned fire but didn't hit the suspect, who fled. The suspect will be suspended without pay pending his firing from the department.

BIG SUR, Calif. (AP) — A week-old wildfire along California's dramatic Big Sur coast is expected to burn until the end of August, the peak time for tourists to pass through the region and some businesses have already noticed a 50 percent decline in customers. Lodge managers and cafe owners are worried and all state parks in the fire area remain closed. One person has died and 41 homes have burned.

MIAMI (AP) — Mosquito control workers in Florida are gearing up for a war on the pests as word spreads that Miami's hippest neighborhood might now be ground zero for the first mosquito-transmitted infections of the Zika virus in the U.S. mainland. No mosquitoes have tested positive but other methods of Zika transmission have been ruled out for the infected residents. U.S. health officials said they do not expect widespread outbreaks in this country.

WASHINGTON (AP) — The Agriculture Department now has two years to write rules requiring the labelling of genetically modified food ingredients for the first time. President Barack Obama signed a bill requiring most food packages to carry a text label, a symbol or an electronic code readable by smartphone. Some labeling advocates worry the bill isn't strong enough.

HARRISBURG, Pa. (AP) — Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump is hinting he'll increase his attacks on Democrat Hillary Clinton. He told a Colorado rally "Trump is going to be no more Mr. Nice Guy." Amid the backdrop of another computer hack of her campaign, Clinton is on a bus tour of Ohio and Pennsylvania, a pair of Rust Belt battlegrounds. Administration experts say Russia is behind the hack.
