On the final night of the Democrats' event, Hillary Clinton accepted her party's nomination to be president. She said she did so with "humility, determination and boundless confidence in America's promise."

She questioned whether Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump has the temperament to be commander in chief. UNDATED (AP) — Donald Trump took to Twitter to criticize Hillary Clinton for her refusal to use the phrase "Radical Islam," calling it further proof she is unfit to lead the country. Trump also declared that no one has worse judgment than Clinton, adding that — quote — "corruption and devastation follows her wherever she goes."

OSWIECIM, Poland (AP) — Pope Francis has begun a somber visit to the Nazi death camp Auschwitz-Birkenau in Poland. Francis is the third consecutive pontiff to make the pilgrimage to the place where Adolf Hitler's forces killed more than 1 million people, most of them Jews. The pope walked beneath the notorious sign which says, in German, "Work Sets You Free."

SYDNEY (AP) — Australia's government has rejected a request by former Prime Minister Kevin Rudd to back his late bid for the top United Nations job. The decision by Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull effectively crushes Rudd's hopes of succeeding U.N. Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon.
