BOISE, Idaho (AP) — A rally in Idaho to support law enforcement officers has been postponed indefinitely out of respect to the family of a rancher who was shot and killed by deputies. State Rep. Judy Boyle tells the Idaho Statesman newspaper that holding the rally now would look "like a poke in (the family's) eye" after Friday's announcement that state and federal officials would not press charges against the deputies who killed Jack Yantis.
POST FALLS, Idaho (AP) — A northern Idaho daycare has closed its doors after an investigation by the state's Department of Health and Welfare found multiple violations. KREM-TV reports that state inspectors reported earlier this year that Here We Grow daycare, based in Post Falls, left 22 children alone in several rooms.
BOISE, Idaho (AP) — The estate of an Idaho inmate who died last year has settled a lawsuit with Canyon County. The Idaho Statesman reports that 46-year-old Alfred "Jeri" Young's estate argued that workers ignored Young's medical requests leading up to his 2014 death. The county says it wasn't aware of Young's HIV diagnosis.
BIG SUR, Calif. (AP) — Firefighters are making significant progress against a fire that scorched nearly 61 square miles in northern Los Angeles County. The fire command says that the blaze is 85 percent contained Friday, eight days after it broke out in a semi-rural area of suburban Santa Clarita and spread into the mountainous Angeles National Forest.
