Plans move forward on Michigan life sciences research hub

LANSING, Mich. (AP) — Plans are moving forward on a statewide research hub in Michigan focusing on medical devices, diagnostics, therapeutics and health care.

The Michigan Strategic Fund this week approved the Michigan Translational Research and Commercialization Life Science Innovation Hub. It's co-managed by the University of Michigan Medical School's Fast Forward Medical Innovation program and the school's Tech Transfer program.

The Michigan Strategic Fund also approved $2 million that's being matched by $2 million from the University of Michigan and partner institutions involved in the effort. The money will support technology transfer for the commercialization of life science technologies.

The hub's proposed projects will offer early-stage funding in the $25,000 to $30,000 range as well as others in the $100,000 to $200,000 range.
