6 dead in Munich shooting...Trump not interested in Cruz endorsement...Stocks gain

MUNICH, Germany (AP) — Munich police say eight people are dead and several are wounded in a shooting attack outside a McDonald's restaurant. A police spokesman says he's aware of reports that a man has killed himself while he was being arrested, but said there is no confirmation of this yet. He says up to three suspects armed with rifles are still at large and being hunted by police. Munich police are calling the attack "suspected terrorism." They have urged residents to remain indoors while the police operation continues.

CLEVELAND (AP) — If Ted Cruz decides to endorse Donald Trump for president -- it's too late. Trump says he's not interested. A day after accepting the Republican presidential nomination, Trump told supporters in Cleveland today that Cruz "may have ruined his political career" with his Wednesday night speech in which he refused to endorse Trump.

BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) — The mayor of Baton Rouge, Louisiana, is urging the community to set aside any differences with law enforcement, and show respect to police. Mayor Kip Holden says officers "are here for all of us." He spoke at a funeral today for one of the three officers who were killed in an ambush Sunday morning by a gunman who was then killed by police. Funerals for a sheriff's deputy and another police officer are scheduled over the next couple of days.

NORTH MIAMI, Fla. (AP) — Advocates for autistic people hope this week's police shooting that involved an autistic man will lead to more training for officers so they can learn how to defuse such situations. North Miami police officers shot and wounded an autistic man's therapist as he tried to coax the man back to a group home. The officers' union says an officer fired because he thought the metal object in the autistic man's hand was a gun and he was about to shoot the therapist. The object was a toy truck. Therapist Charles Kinsey is recovering from his wound. Local and state agencies are investigating the shooting.

NEW YORK (AP) — Stocks are closing higher, giving the market its fourth straight weekly gain. The gains today were led by phone companies and utilities, traditional safe-play stocks that have done far better than the rest of the market over the past year. The S&P 500 rose 9 points today, while the Dow gained 53 and the Nasdaq composite advanced 26 points.
