CLEVELAND (AP) — Donald Trump will pledge to Americans that "safety will be restored" and the middle class will experience "profound relief" if he becomes president. The promise comes tonight during Trump's acceptance speech at the Republican convention. In prepared remarks, Trump blames Hillary Clinton for — quote — "many of the disasters unfolding today."

STERLING, Virginia (AP) — Virginia Sen. Tim Kaine has emerged as the leading contender to join the Democratic ticket as Hillary Clinton's running mate. That's according to two Democrats, who both caution that Clinton has not made a final decision and could yet change directions. The announcement of Clinton's pick could come as early as tomorrow.

WASHINGTON (AP) — The U.S. and its counterterrorism allies believe they've reached a "key moment" in their campaign to defeat the Islamic State group despite several difficult months. After two days of talks in Washington, a joint statement issued today cites steady advances by Iraqi forces and Syrian opposition militias.

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. (AP) — Authorities say a plane set to fly from West Palm Beach to Philadelphia with 138 people aboard had to be evacuated after a report of a possible hydraulic fuel leak. American Airlines says the 133 passengers and five crewmembers evacuated to the tarmac using inflatable slides.

MIAMI (AP) — The Florida Health Department says it's investigating a second possible non-travel-related case of Zika infection in South Florida. Health authorities are testing mosquitoes and have not yet confirmed that anyone has been infected by a bite in the mainland United States.
