Death toll at 84 ... President condemns attack ...Trump postpones ... Clinton poll

NICE, France (AP) — At least 84 people, including children, were killed when a large truck plowed through revelers gathered for Bastille Day fireworks in Nice (neece), France. The attack sent some people fleeing into the sea. The driver was killed by police. No one has claimed responsibility, and it's not known whether the driver had any accomplices.

WASHINGTON (AP) — President Barack Obama has condemned what he said "appears to be a horrific terrorist attack" in Nice. Noting that the attack occurred on Bastille Day, Obama said: "We know that the character of the French Republic will endure long after this devastating and tragic loss of life."

BRUSSELS (AP) — Belgium's prime minister says he's convening a meeting of the National Security Council today in the wake of the Nice attack. Prime Minister Charles Michel (mee-SHEL') says he wants to make sure adequate security measures are in place for Belgium's national holiday next week. Last March, suicide bombers killed 32 victims in the Brussels Airport and subway.

WASHINGTON (AP) — Donald Trump abruptly postponed plans to announce his vice presidential pick after the attack in France. During a day of rampant speculation, Indiana Gov. Mike Pence emerged as a late favorite for the job. Trump told Fox News he had not made his "final, final decision," and his advisers cautioned that he could change his mind.

WASHINGTON (AP) — A new Associated Press-GfK poll finds that Hillary Clinton has been damaged by perceptions that she violated the law by using a private email system while secretary of state. More than half of Americans think the presumptive Democratic nominee broke the law in using a private email account and server at the State Department.
