FALCON HEIGHTS, Minn. (AP) — The girlfriend of a Minnesota black man fatally shot by police last night says on video that they were pulled over for a busted tail light. After 32-year-old Philando Castile is shot several times by a police officer, the woman says, "Oh my God, please don't tell me he's dead." The woman, who livestreamed what happened on Facebook, says Castile told the officer he had a permit to carry a gun and was shot while motioning to put up his hands. St. Anthony police say the officer is placed on administrative leave during an investigation.

BALTIMORE (AP) — Opening statements are set for today in the trial of one of six Baltimore police officers blamed for the death of a prisoner whose neck was broken in the back of a transport wagon. Lt. Brian Rice is charged with manslaughter, assault, reckless endangerment and misconduct in office charges stemming from the April 19, 2015, death of Freddie Gray. Rice has chosen to be tried in front of a judge instead of a jury. Already, two officers have been acquitted and a third officer's proceedings ended in a mistrial.

BEIRUT (AP) — Activists and state media are reporting that despite yesterday's declaration of a three-day truce by the Syrian government, violence is continuing. The Britain-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights says rebels clashed with government forces to repel an advance on a road that's the rebels' lifeline to the north of rebel-held areas in Aleppo city. The state-run news agency says three people were killed.

BERLIN (AP) — Experts say parts of a prison in western Germany are so dilapidated that the building could collapse at any time. More than 500 prison inmates in Muenster (MYOONS'-stur) have been evacuated from one of the oldest such facilities in Germany. Authorities have planned since 2012 to build a new prison but haven't yet found a site for it.

PHNOM PENH, Cambodia (AP) — Visitors to Cambodia's Angkor temples will have to start looking respectable. Authorities say starting Aug. 4, they'll ban anyone wanting to visit the famed temples who isn't dressed modestly. Officials say the ban was implemented because wearing revealing clothes disrespects the temple's sanctity.
