DHAKA, Bangladesh (AP) — "They are all Bangladeshis. They are from rich families, they have good educational background." That's how Bangladeshi security officials are describing the men who carried out the weekend hostage-taking in an upscale restaurant in Dhaka. They deny the Islamic State group's claim of responsibility for the attack that killed 28 people, including six attackers. Police say the men belonged to a banned domestic group. One was captured.

BAGHDAD (AP) —The White House is condemning the two bombings in Iraq's capital that claimed more than 120 lives and wounded more than 200 others. The Islamic State group has claimed responsibility for one of them -- a car bomb attack in central Baghdad. There was a second blast in eastern Baghdad. The weekend bombings targeted families and young people out at restaurants, cafes and in shopping malls after breaking their Ramadan fast.

NEW YORK (AP) — Family and friends are remembering Nobel laureate and Holocaust survivor Elie Wiesel (EL'-ee vee-ZEHL') who died Saturday at age 87. He was memorialized today at a private service in New York. Mourners shared their personal memories. Ronald Lauder, president of the World Jewish Congress, remembered visiting Auschwitz with Wiesel in the 1980s and was struck that Wiesel's response was not one of hate, but of "great sadness."

CLE ELUM, Wash. (AP) — Four helicopters and aircrews from the California National Guard are helping battle two wildfires in the central part of the state. Cal Guard says two Black Hawk helicopters and two Chinook helicopters have been deployed to fight blazes in Kern and Fresno counties. It says the aircraft are providing water drops, medical evacuation and personnel and equipment transportation.

LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. (AP) — The father of a toddler killed by an alligator at Disney World last month says two alligators were involved in the attack. According to emails from the Reedy Creek Fire Department, Matt Graves told rescuers he was attacked by a second gator as he tried to reach his son after the boy was pulled into the water. Capt. Tom Wellons described his interaction with the father in emails to his supervisors obtained by The Orlando Sentinel.
