St. George golfer Jay Don Blake has put himself in position to win a major on the PGA’s Champions Tour circuit.
Blake shot 1-over 71 in Saturday’s third round to sit in second place, three shots behind leader Bernhard Langer’s 2-under at the Senior Players Championship at Philadelphia Cricket Club.
The senior Utah State alum dropped birdies on the 11th and 18th holes to get to plus-one and save a one-shot lead on Jeff Sluman, Woody Austin, Wes Short, Jr., Bart Bryant and Brandt Jobe, who are all tied for third ahead of Sunday’s final round.
Blake is looking for his first top-10 finish of 2016. He has three career wins on the Champions Tour and five second-place finishes with 29 top-10 finishes.
