CHICAGO (AP) — A man has been charged in the choking of an 8-year-old girl in a bathroom at a downtown Chicago restaurant.

Cook County jail records show 33-year-old Reese M. Hartstirn is being held without bond on charges of felony aggravated kidnapping and aggravated battery to a child.

Hartstirn hasn't entered a plea.

Police and jail officials said Saturday that they don't know if Hartstirn has an attorney to speak on his behalf.

According to police, the girl and her mother were at a restaurant in the South Loop on May 7. The mother heard the girl scream from the bathroom and found a man carrying her unconscious daughter into a bathroom stall.

Police say the mother took her daughter to a hospital. No information has been released on the child's condition.
