PROVO — Calvin Whiting scored his second try in the 79th minute and kicked 7 of 9 conversions Friday night to lead the BYU rugby team to a 49-12 rout of rival Utah to defend the Wasatch Cup title at South Field.

Ricky Tu’ihalangingie opened the scoring just three minutes into the match with a try, and the Cougars jumped out to a 28-0 lead — including Whiting’s first try 16 minutes in — en route to a 28-5 halftime lead and cruised to the victory.

Luke Mocke opened the second half with a diving try over the line to go up 35-5, and Josh Anderson put the game away 42-5 in the 71st minute before Utah mauled its way for a try off a scrum to get to double-digits in the waning minutes of the match.
