FREDERICK, Md. (AP) — Frederick County public school officials are inviting area employers to participate in the state's first youth apprenticeship program.
The meeting Wednesday afternoon in Frederick is aimed at meeting a need for workers trained in science, technology, engineering and mathematics.
The Frederick program is part of a pilot project authorized last year by the state legislature. Washington County Public Schools are also involved in the effort to recruit up to 60 students from each county over the next two years.
Eligible students must be juniors or seniors in a Maryland public high school, must have interest in obtaining a license or certification in a skilled occupation, and must be willing to work a minimum of 450 hours with an eligible employer.
