No. 13 SLCC advances to JUCO semifinals with win over No. 12 SW Tennessee

HUTCHINSON, Kan. — Former American Fork High standout Tyler Rawson had 23 points and five rebounds to lead No. 13 Salt Lake Community College to a 105-76 win over No. 12 Southwest Tennessee in the quarterfinals of the NJCAA national tournament Thursday at Hutchinson Community College.

Utah Valley commit Conner Toolson added 18 points, two assists and two steals for the Bruins, who advanced to face No. 8 Gillette (34-1) in the semifinals Friday.

The former Lone Peak wing went 4-of-7 from 3-point range to lead an impressive 14-of-24 effort from downtown for SLCC (30-8).

Gibson Johnson supplied 12 points and five rebounds for the Bruins, and teammate Tad Dufelmeier added eight points and 11 assists.

Former American Fork guard Austin Waddoups scored 10 points, and ex-Kearns High star Bushmen Ebet added nine points off the bench for SLCC, which shot 55.2 percent from the field.

Lorenzen Wright Jr. led Southwest Tennessee (30-6) with 29 points, four rebounds and three assists, and Jimario Riveros supplied 13 points for the Saluqis, who fell behind 51-31 at halftime and couldn't catch up.
