BUFFALO, N.Y. (AP) — A Buffalo public school has been designated a Confucius Classroom School, meaning it will get funding, books and other support from China for its Chinese language programming.
City Honors school plans to celebrate the designation on Friday. It carries with it a grant valued at $25,000 the first year and $10,000 each year after that.
More than 300 students study Chinese as part of the regular curriculum at City Honors. The school's application for the Confucius designation was submitted last year by the Confucius Institute at the University at Buffalo.
According to the Beijing headquarters for the Confucius Institutes, known as Hanban, there are 500 Confucius Institutes and 1,000 Confucius Classrooms around the world.
