KARLSRUHE, Germany (AP) — Bayern Munich's only warmup match before the Bundesliga restarts ended in a 2-1 defeat at second-division Karlsruhe and the expulsion of defender Jerome Boateng on Saturday.
The runaway Bundesliga leader fell behind before Arturo Vidal tied the friendly midway through the first half. But Karlsruhe sealed the win from the spot after Boateng was sent off for a foul in the 73rd.
Bayern is seeking an unprecedented fourth straight Bundesliga title before coach Pep Guardiola leaves at the end of the season. Bayern is also still in the chase for the Champions League title and the German Cup.
Bayern kicks off the second half of the season on Friday against Hamburger SV. The Bundesliga has been on its winter break for nearly four weeks.
