MIDVALE, Utah (AP) — Unified police have raided three Internet cafe businesses following a yearlong investigation into suspected online gambling. The Deseret News reports that about 150 gaming consoles were seized from three businesses that were shut down in Midvale, Salt Lake City and Kearns yesterday. No arrests were made, but police say seven people could face charges.
SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — A Navajo man who helped stump the Japanese during World War II using a code based on his native language has died in Utah. The Salt Lake Tribune reports that 92-year-old Ernest Yazhe died of renal failure in Sandy on Tuesday. Yazhe was born in New Mexico and joined the U.S. Marines when he was 19 years old to become one of the hundreds of code talkers who played a vital combat role. Yazhe was discharged in 1946 and moved to Utah, where he worked for Kennecott Utah Copper.
SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — Rudy Gay scored 24 points and hit the game-winning shot with 0.9 seconds remaining to give the Sacramento Kings a 103-101 victory over the Utah Jazz last night. Gay hit a 17-foot fadeaway after Joe Ingles' 3-pointer tied the score at 101 with 4.1 seconds left. Rookie forward Trey Lyles scored a career-high 19 points for the Jazz, and Gordon Hayward had 21.
SPOKANE, Wash. (AP) — Nick Emery hit a 3-pointer with 1:38 left for the lead and BYU hung on to beat No. 25 Gonzaga 69-68 last night. It was the only basket of the game for Emery. Kyle Collinsworth scored 20 points and Chase Fischer added 18 for BYU, which upset Gonzaga at home for the second straight season.
