BEIJING (AP) — Stock prices in China and other Asian markets continue to be volatile. Friday's trading has been swinging between losses and gains. The modest rebound is vast improvement over Thursday, when a key index plunged 7 percent. China's stock markets have little connection to the rest of its economy but two sharp price declines this week have focused attention on the slowdown in Chinese growth.

WASHINGTON (AP) — Most economists are optimistic about last month's jobs numbers. According to the data firm FactSet, employers added a healthy 200,000 jobs and the unemployment rate remained at a low 5 percent for a third straight month. The government will release the unemployment rate on Friday.

SEOUL, South Korea (AP) — The Navy is watching North Korea closely after the country says it conducted its fourth nuclear test. That's the word of the Navy Vice Admiral Joseph Aucoin, commander of 7th Fleet based in Japan. He says the Navy has ships in the area and is monitoring very closely.

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (AP) — The White House is dispatching top national security officials to Silicon Valley to seek the tech industry's help in disrupting the Islamic State group and other terrorists. They will meet Friday with leaders from major technology and Internet companies. Expected participants include Attorney General Loretta Lynch, FBI Director James Comey and Director of National Intelligence James Clapper.

FAIRFAX, Va. (AP) — President Barack Obama says gun rights groups are distorting the national debate on gun violence by creating a "conspiracy" that the government wants to grab all guns. He appeared on a prime-time town hall sponsored by CNN. And Donald Trump discussed gun restrictions during a rally in Vermont. Trump said he would eliminate gun-free zones in schools. He says they are "bait" for "a sicko."
