Munich train stations reopen ... Obama considers executive action on gun control ... Chilly Rose Parade

BERLIN (AP) — Train stations in Munich have reopened and trains are running today, but a terror warning about Islamic State extremists intending to blow themselves up in the German city remain in place. Shortly before Munich rang in the new year, police evacuated the main train station and another one because of the threat of an imminent terror attack by between five and seven militants at different locations in the city.

VATICAN CITY (AP) — Pope Francis delivered his New Year's Day message at St. Peter's Basilica today, urging people to overcome indifference and "leave behind the false neutrality which prevents sharing." The pope also asked how long human evil would keep sowing violence and hatred.

MANILA, Philippines (AP) — Firecrackers in the Philippines have left at least one man dead and 380 other revelers injured. The Philippines' health secretary says a drunken man lit a dynamite-like firecracker called "Goodbye Philippines" and embraced it on New Year's Eve, ripping his jaw and killing him. And a rocket lit by revelers set an abandoned hut on fire, which spread to about 1,000 shanties in Manila.

HONOLULU (AP) — President Barack Obama will meet Monday with Attorney General Loretta Lynch to discuss executive actions he could take to make it harder for dangerous people to get their hands on guns. Obama says in his weekly radio address that he gets so many letters from parents, teachers and children about the "epidemic of gun violence" that he can't "sit around and do nothing."

PASADENA, Calif. (AP) — Fans already are lined up in Pasadena, California, for the 127th Rose Parade. They started claiming front-row spots yesterday afternoon along the 5 ½-mile route. And they've come prepared for the cold. Temperatures are in the low 40s and many people spent the night gathered around heaters and barbecues. The crowd is expected to swell to more than 700,000 before the parade begins at 11 a.m. Eastern Time.
