MANTUA, Utah (AP) — A 23-year-old Utah State University student has died after losing control of his vehicle on icy roads in Sardine Canyon near Mantua.
Authorities say Joshua Diamond, of West Jordan, had been driving an SUV Wednesday when his car slid sideways into the path of an oncoming semitrailer. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Diamond's vehicle was struck head-on by the semitrailer and then hit by a black SUV.
The occupants of the black SUV, a Sandy woman and her teenage son, were treated at a hospital and released.
The 67-year-old semitrailer driver, Steven Stocks of Logan, suffered minor injuries.
Authorities say speed may have been a factor in the collision.
