SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — Utah lawmakers are set to go into a special session this afternoon to consider whether to approve a new prison site near the Salt Lake City airport. Salt Lake City opposes the move, and city officials are threatening a lawsuit to block the prison.

SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — Utah Attorney General Sean Reyes says he wants to see how the EPA proposes to fix damage to state waterways caused by a massive spill of mine waste in Colorado before he decides whether to take legal action. Reyes told Utah lawmakers that the federal agency must be held responsible after the waste was accidently unleashed by its workers and flowed through the San Juan River to Lake Powell.

FORT DUCHESNE, Utah (AP) — Uintah County sheriff's deputies have released the name of a toddler who was killed Sunday after a relative backed over her in a pickup truck. The Deseret News reports that deputies say 1-year-old Turquoise Christensen died when a family member went outside to turn a truck around and did not see that the girl had walked behind the truck.

SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — Salt Lake City parks will have to wait to get an overhaul after the City Council decided to not ask voters to consider a $100 million general obligation bond on the Nov. 3 ballot. The council voted 4-3 last night against the bond. Mayor Ralph Becker withdrew his support for the plan just before the vote, saying now is not the time for the project.
