SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — Republican Party delegates have decided on a new representative to fill the vacant seat for House District 58.

KUTV-TV reports (http://bit.ly/1JARdN7 ) that Derrin Owens, a counselor at Juab High School, received a majority of the vote during a caucus meeting on Thursday.

Owens, who was selected among four other candidates, will be taking the seat formerly held by Jon Cox. Cox resigned this month to become a spokesman for Gov. Gary Herbert.

Owens will be the third representative for the seat in as many years. Upon taking over, he will be faced with handling some important issues, including Medicaid expansion and prison relocation.

Owens says he is looking forward to representing Juab and Sanpete County.

Owens' name will be sent to Gov. Herbert for confirmation.
