HARRISONBURG, Va. (AP) — Bridgewater College has been fined $13,000 by state regulators for hazardous waste management violations.
A Virginia Department of Environmental Quality consent order says the college didn't characterize some waste as hazardous or not. The college also didn't characterize fluorescent bulbs in buildings as either hazardous or a universal waste.
The violations were found during a standard inspection in January by the DEQ.
A monthlong public comment period on the consent order began Thursday.
Bridgewater vice president for finance Anne Keeler says in statement to The Daily News-Record (http://bit.ly/1D3WGdX ) that the college will apply the findings to a regular review of policies and procedures for handling all regulated materials.
