MESA, Ariz. (AP) — Bond is set at $50,000 for a former Mesa charter school math teacher and football coach accused of having sex with a teenage girl.
Mesa police say 36-year-old Sheron Maurice Butler is being held on suspicion of sexual conduct with a minor.
He didn't have a lawyer at his initial court appearance Tuesday.
Police say their investigation began last Saturday when a 17 year-old girl disclosed at summer camp that she was having a sexual relationship with one of her teachers at Sequoia Charter School.
They say the disclosure was made to a counselor who then contacted police.
Butler later was arrested at his home.
The girl told police that she had sex with Butler several times since February.
Sequoia officials say Butler is no longer employed by the school.
