CANBERRA, Australia (AP) — Police say they have arrested a 17-year-old suspected terrorist and disrupted a plot to detonate three homemade bombs in the Australian city of Melbourne. A law enforcement official says the teen was arrested Friday at his home in the upmarket suburb of Greenvale where the explosive devices were found. Police did not know when or where the bombs were to be detonated, but say the plot was to be executed soon.
SEOUL, South Korea (AP) — North Korea says it has successfully test-fired a newly developed ballistic missile from a submarine in what would be the latest display of the country's advancing military capability. The official news agency says leader Kim Jong Un personally attended the test launching of what he described as a "world-level strategic weapon."
LITTLETON, Colo. (AP) — An FBI agent who was serving an arrest warrant at a suburban Denver motel has been wounded by a suspect who opened fire. The agent was wounded in the leg and is expected to survive. The suspect then allegedly fired two shots at law enforcement agents, who did not fire back. He then fatally shot himself in the room. The suspect was wanted for bank robbery.
BALTIMORE (AP) — Six Baltimore police officers charged in connection with the death of a man who received a spinal injury while in their custody want a judge to dismiss the case. They say in court papers that they the victims of an "overzealous prosecution." Meanwhile, the Justice Department says it will investigate the department.
NEW YORK (AP) — The stock market has posted its biggest gain in two month after the U.S. government reported an encouraging pickup in hiring. The gain of 223,000 jobs in April trimmed the unemployment rate to 5.4 percent. The Dow climbed 267 points. The S&P climbed 28, and the Nasdaq rose 58 points.
