Zions Bank Ogden Marathon

If you love the outdoors, Ogden is definitely for you with access to 170,000 acres of National Forest land, three ski resorts, over 210 miles of trails for hiking and mountain biking and 13,000 acres of lakes connected by pristine rivers. It's also known as the home of the Zions Bank Ogden Marathon. This year Shape Magazine recognized the Ogden Marathon as one of the "top 10 marathons for first-time runners."

This is a significant event for the community with 1,900 volunteers giving almost 12,000 volunteer hours to produce the event. There's also important community outreach through visits to after-school programs within the Ogden and Weber County school district. These visits provide a way for elementary-aged children to earn their entry into the KidsK or 5K races and finish with other athletes.

Jenny Scothern, head of the Get Out And Live, or GOAL, Foundation which administers the Zions Bank Ogden Marathon, says every year it attracts 10,000 runners between the full and half marathons, relay teams, 5K and kids runs. In this group are runners from 46 states and 7 countries and growing. This year's event will be held on May 16.

One of the reasons the Zions Bank Ogden Marathon and Half-Marathon are so popular is because they are great courses for beginning runners. With only one hill, the elevation declines throughout the 26.2-mile race as participants run down Utah's beautiful countryside, including Ogden Canyon, which boasts a waterfall at mile 22.

While the Zions Bank Ogden Marathon is expected to sell out, there are still entries available. VIP entries are also available for both the full and half marathon.
