NEW YORK (AP) — Stocks are ending higher as investors pore over company earnings. The S&P 500 index rose 101/2 points, or 0.5 percent, to 2,107. The Dow Jones industrial average was up 88 1/2 points, or 0.5 percent, to 18,038. And the Nasdaq composite picked up 21 points, or 0.4 percent, to 5,035.

NEW YORK (AP) — Oil prices are mixed today. Benchmark U.S. crude oil fell 45 cents to $56.16 a barrel on the New York Mercantile Exchange. But Brent crude, the benchmark for international oils rose 65 cents to $62.73 barrel in London.

WASHINGTON (AP) — The House has passed legislation curbing the growth of the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau That's the agency which enforces laws aimed at protecting consumers from unfair or illegal practices by banks, mortgage lenders and other financial services providers. The measure imposes a budget cap on the CFPB. The White House has threatened to veto the bill.

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — Google is offering a wireless phone service designed to pressure major carriers such as AT&T and Verizon Wireless into lowering their prices. The service, called "Project Fi," will cost $20 per month and only charge customers for the amount of cellular data that they use each month instead of a flat rate. Each gigabyte of data will cost $10 per month.

NEW YORK (AP) — Facebook is unveiling a new voice-calling app for Android phones. Its WhatsApp messaging service is also introducing voice-calling for iOS devices. Called "Hello," the stand-alone app is the seventh child of Facebook Creative Labs. Hello's aim is to give people more information about callers.
